Inmate Dies When Drug Filled Baggies Rupture Inside of Him
This past Sunday in Colorado a genius inmate died from an unintentional drug overdose. Dustin Elbert was arrested Saturday during a traffic stop. The charges that he was being held on were felony parole violation (guess he’s not one of the rehabilitated ones), possession of methamphetamines, and driving under the influence of drugs.
Evidently between the time of his arrest and his death Sunday, this stellar individual managed to swallow three baggies of an illegal substance. Much to Elbert’s disdain, two of the baggies ruptured and the contents leaked into his system. The type of drug in the baggies is unknown at this time. My own uneducated personal opinion would think that it was more meth since he was already on that when he was arrested. If that is the case, that makes for one unpleasant way to die. Then again, with that much meth in your system, it may have been close to instantaneous death. He was found unresponsive at dinner, so it’s very possible it was a quick death.
Something you should be aware of is that this was Elbert’s 16th booking in the county jail. The 13th for drug related charges. So again I have to say, rehabilitation really does work, right my left winged friends?
Unfortunately, the worst is yet to come I fear. His family will probably sue the county/state alleging that the Corrections staff was negligent by allowing Elbert to consume those drugs and therefore win a large settlement for wrongful death of some sorts. Thank you liberals for giving scum like Elbert more rights than normal citizens and allowing his family to profit off his illegal activities.

I am a member of Dustin Elbert’s family. His twin sons are my nephews. These are boys who will have to live with what happened on 4/10/07 for the rest of their lives. The last thing they need is to witness any more dysfunctional adult behavior, such as their father’s and such as yours. They will not be hiring any lawyers…they have no concept of wrongful death…they are 10 years old and any hope of their father ever coming clean died on Easter Sunday 2007. Why don’t you put your pointing finger down and pray for these children? Are you a Christian? If so, then read the book and follow its directions. SHame on you.

blue_eyed_soul,
I am truly sorry for his boy’s and your family’s sake. I do hate that his son’s will grow up without a daddy. However, it doesn’t appear he was much of a dad in the first place. I also understand the family’s hope in that Dustin would eventually come clean, but it seems he was a habitual offender. I personally think his sons may be better off now as they will have the guidance of you, their mother and hopefully other upstanding, non-drug-using members of your family to guide them.
I am also glad to see that you have a clear head on your shoulders and that you and the family have not decided to pursue some frivolous lawsuit of wrongful death or some sort of negligence. You have seen Dustin for who he truly is: a man with a drug problem that just couldn’t overcome it. Not that he didn’t have the willpower or ability, he just chose not to seek help and make an effort.
I fail to see how I am pointing fingers here. I stated the facts as the were. I also stated some opinion on today’s legal and justice system regarding how criminals truthfully have more rights and liberties than free individuals. I also stated some opinions about Dustin by calling him sarcastically a genius and a stellar individual. Both of which he was not. I think you realize that. I can say this as I have my own personal experience with family members and their drug problems, the long unsuccessful road to recovery, and incarceration for their actions. It’s not a fun journey, you feel sorry for them and wish they would change. The fact remains the same that at the end of the day, they are still drug users, con artists, cheats and thieves. You still love them because they are family, but they are criminals and should be punished accordingly.
As for my Christianity, yes, I am a Christian. So immediately my heart was saddened because I feel this is another individual who will never know heaven or his Saviour. At the same time, he choose the life he led and eventually the life that killed him; so for that, I have no sympathy. Also, as a Christian, I am deeply saddened by the family’s loss, but hope this can be a relief of burden and worry, and can serve as an educational example to others that were Dustin’s friends and family.
I would also be interested to know what you meant when you said “read the book and follow it’s directions.” I’m guessing it’s going to be something like “judge not, lest ye be judged” or “let you who is without sin cast the first stone”. However, I could answer typically with “eye for an eye” or other verses that would be taken out of context. So rather than guessing, I would be interested to know what exact verse or passage you were referring me to so I can enlighten myself, or offer a counter view.
Also, as Christians we are called to love our neighbors. While called to do that, we are also called to hate sin. So, I love homosexuals, drug users, alcoholics and prostitutes. I do however hate their lifestyle and their choices immensely and will never support or condone any of the activities.
I look forward to your response.

Allright….out of all that Ive read so far…..
THIS one bothered me the most…
I have to comment..
I am the mother of those twin boys…and lets not forget there are others left behind..
This is what I REFUSE to believe …..
“He will never know heaven or our Saviour”.
WOW…
I know for a fact that Dustin knew Christ.
Not only that… but I’m pretty sure that He is an ALL Loving God.
Being a Mother…I always forgive….I know my own love that he gave to me for my children…now…imagine….just imagine…
how much GREATER His love is for all of us…compared to our love for our own?
So are you saying that if you are a sinner….you will not get to enter the gates of Heaven, and meet our Saviour?
If so….I guess NO BODY gets to Heaven and meets our Saviour…
Because EVERYONE is a sinner…..All of us.
And another good question……Do you believe that you better confess Jesus as you Saviour before you die…or your just shit out of luck?
That is your last chance….?!
Show me where it says that….and tell me how an All loving God draws the line there….
Confess it out of your mouth and believe it in your heart…… That is what it says….
Ive been wanting to debate this with folks for years….too bad it took someone I loved so dearly..(but couldnt support…shame on me…because what would Jesus do?) to pass so absurdly, for me to start praying for effectively… (or however you spell it)
I let my anger, and my judgement get in the way of praying for him!!
Seems like Jesus hung out with the prostitutes, and the lepers, and the people that needed Him.
Dustin Richard Elbert is with our Saviour right now….Praise God.
Guilt free, pain free, drug free, shame free.
I know this…and I refuse to believe any different, because I know Christ and I know Dust.
I met a man the other day that God sent right in my path……and we talked about God….
he said ” I have a problem with the word Christian these days…. but I am a Christian”
I said “Me too…”
He helps alcoholics and drug addicts…..just by love…..
Because God is Love.
thanks,
I needed that.

Imy name is heather..and dustin was my big brother. not by blood but by soul. u see his son jakob is my nephew. and as tricia( whom im sure dont know me..im jennifers little sis) said i know dusty was a god loving and fearing man. he was such a loving man..just had a troubled soul. i knew dusty as i was a young girl and i thought of him as my big brother, i loved and still do him as so. i know ppl think that he was just a lowsy druggie but he was not he was so much more. the grips of hell held onto him and no matter how hard he tried he could not shake it. but he had jesus christ and the great lord above in his heart all the time and i truly believe that is why he made it as far as he did. god had a plan for him just like he had for all of us..and if u ranter( who ever u are) who is bashing dust u must not really know him…u sacratically called him a genius but u are absolutley right cause he was, maybe not all book genius but life genius, and to be able to love as uncondionally as he did is something amazing. so may he soul rest in peace with his baby girl and the dear lord above, and may u give his soul rest cause god as why shouldn’t you??

I am sorry about my lengthy absence, but I have had other things on my plate. I thought you may be a Christian considering the tone that your post took. I am not a Christian, because, growing up in Colorado Springs, I have seen the most inhumane, judgmental and cruel things done to others by people who call themselves Christians. ( OH, I should add hypocritical…doesn’t Ted Haggard reside in COlorado Springs?)
Although I am not a Christian, I have done some homework. My understanding of Christianity is that the reliogion is based upon the New Testament. In the New Testament, Jesus contradicts the precepts set forth in the Old Testament. One of these Old Testament precepts was “an eye for an eye.” This was the precept that you used to defend your arguement, but if you are using a Christian approach…this precept doesn’t apply. I really wish that people who call themselves Christians would read the book more carefully. If they did, then maybe they wouldn’t have so much time to get into other people’s family matters.
ANd this was not my original point. My original point was my nephews are left with a very difficult legacy. That is enough. What they don’t need is to google their father’s name (which they will do) and find that some stranger judging their father, condemning their father based on a worldview that the stranger doesn’t even fully understand. What my nephews need are prayers that they handle this legacy with grace and prayers that they beat the odds that they now face. They don’t need to witness any more aggression and ignorance. Please, for the sake of the children that are left in this man’s mess, do as lil sis asks, put it to rest and go read your book.
